Problema: não é possível colocar a resolução 1600x900 pois não
aparece essa opção não aparece para ser solucionada, ou, se aparece,
ainda assim a qualidade da imagem fica completamente distorcida.
Nenhuma das outras resolução fica a contento, restando apenas algumas
opções menos piores.
Mesmo com todos os drivers necessário instalados o problema é o mesmo.
Mesmo em computadores novos ou velhos o problema é o mesmo. Seja 2duo ou i7.
Mesmo com outras placas de vídeo, seja onboard ou offboard, o problema é o mesmo.
Sistema operacional: Windows7, Windows8, Debian, Ubuntu.
Solução:
1) Instalar os drivers da placa de vídeo baixando-os do site do fabricante
do chip/processador.
Por exemplo: minha placa é da marca Point of View.
O Chipset dela é: NVIDIA
O modelo dessa NVIDIA é: GF9500GT 1GB DDR2 HDMI
Os drivers (no meu caso) estão em: http://www.nvidia.com.br/download/driverResults.aspx/76100/br
As informações desse driver eram:

2) Instalar o driver do monitor, porém, se não achar não tem problema. Eu
instalei porque achei.

3) Depois de tudo instalado reinicie o computador. Ele não reiniciará com
a imagem boa. Estamos reiniciando apenas para atualizar o sistema.
4) Encontre e abra o -- Painel de Controle NVIDIA --
Ele pode estar perto do relógio, sob a seta perto do relógio, ou nos Programas.. procure..
5) Na esquerda procure -- Mudar Resolução --
Para o próximo passo saiba que:
você NÃO PODE mudar uma resolução que
você NÃO PODE criar uma resolução que já esteja criada.
6) Clique em personalizar
7) Clique em Criar Resolução Personalizada
8) Vamos criar a resolução 1600x900. Coloque exatamente como descrevo
abaixo.

Taxa de atualização: 60
Profundidade de cor (bpp): 32
Tipo de varredura: Progressivo
> Temporização
Padrão: GTF
O resto deixe como está
8) Clique em testar. Dê OK em tudo até sair.
9) Vá na tela principal do Windows e clique com botão direito.
10) Vá em -- Resolução de Tela -- e veja que agora você tem a resolução
1600x900 com a qualidade boa.
DICAS:
Ampliar o tamanho da fonte
No meu caso em fui em Resolução de Tela / Ampliar ou reduzir texto
e mudei para médio - 125%.
