- Nike drivers use advanced and innovative designs to deliver maximum performance. Since their introduction of the STR8-FIT hosel, Nike Golf pushed adjustable club technology forward, allowing golfers to adjust loft, face, and lie angles.
When Nike entered the rather vertical market of golf equipment manufacturing–very tough market to say the least. Could innovation strike where it seems like just about everything has been tried before? Could the market handle another big boy? Nike had something most new entrants into the foray never had: the personal experience of what a chap like Michael Jordan can do for shoe sales. So they tempt a Tiger, and off to the links they go. They do it right. They don’t flood the market. They build anticipation, and, one product at a time, they gain share. Nike is here to stay, and one of the best clubs we have tested is from one of the best golf equipment manufacturers in the market.
Nike’s 350cc forged titanium driver is designed to give you great feel through the bottom arc of your swing, get the ball speeding through the air upon impact, and due to its three-point sole weighting system, provide maximum forgiveness on mis-hits. It is not as innovative as the shoe of days gone by, but then again a waffle maker didn’t inspire it. It is, however, a refined product modeled after some of the best-tested traits of its predecessors.
Its handsome dark-blue clubhead appropriately accentuates the little white ball very nicely. From the top, the 350cc driver addresses the ball well and doesn’t have the look of a balloon on a stick. I must admit I prefer this more “traditional” look than those clubs that overpower the ball at address and leave you with no real sense of where the actual point of contact will occur on the clubface. The club has obviously survived an attack of the Nike Swoosh Department–they’re everywhere on this club and maybe a few less would say a bit more–but that has little to do with the way this thing hits the ball.
I tested the 45″, stiff-shafted model with 10.5 degrees of loft. I normally play 8.5 to 9.0 degrees and occasionally a 44″ stiff shaft. But Nike is selling the idea of great loft for better distance and control. On most average courses and for most average golfers, this additional loft is a good idea. Yes, darn it, I’m average some of the time, but I still hate to see that 10 on my driver. I know you simply will not get the roll the pros do on your local fairways, and with today’s ball design, you don’t need a flatstick driver to get distance, so the added control of an extra degree or two of loft is well worth the cost in ego. Nonetheless, I have no complaints about the loft of this club. In fact, for those of you considering a Nike driver, you must visit their site and go through their on-line driver-fitting program–it’s definitely a good start in selecting your long-ball crusher.
The shaft on this club reminds me of Titleist’s Speeder. It handles the load and then some. The stiff flex does not have any whippy lag to it, and for those of you who are quick but want control, it’s a nice match. For those of you needing or liking the feel of a little kick, you should experiment with the regular flex, even if your old driver shaft claims to be “stiff.”

Performance
I found this club to favor forgiveness over playability. Not a bad thing, mind you, because being in the fairway is the primary goal of any driver. Distance is next, and only if the first two goals are met can you talk about shaping your tee shot. I must admit, any club over 300ccs, I cannot consistently shape well. It seems there is a breaking point where a fade becomes a slice and conversely a draw becomes a hook, and I simply have trouble riding that line with big clubheads. Konica minolta bizhub c224e drivers.
Based upon my read, this particular model seems to be best suited for the 10 to 20 handicapper. If you’re on the high side, you might prefer the 400cc or even newer 450cc monster; those a bit more inclined to take risks based upon past consistent results would prefer the 275cc head, especially if you have a faster swing speed.
I don’t like graphics on my golf shirts, and I’m not a big fan of Nike’s overly jazzed-up sole plate with Robo-cop looks. But man-o-man do I like the feel of this club from about 4:00 to 8:00 on my swing plane, and this is due to the toe mechanics of the sole plate. Nike has scored a 10 on this crucial feel point. It’s where I am accelerating the most, and I can still feel the club. This attribute adds to consistency and distance and in my opinion is the best design feature of this club. Also, the grip is nice and thin and transfers feedback well. The ball has a crisp take-off, and the club offers a thicker, meatier feel and sound than most Pings.
Distance was as good as most modern, top-tier clubs. In fact, because the ball flight was a bit straighter and higher with this club, it may not have been the once-a-round longest-ball hitter some other drivers are, but it consistently found the 250 mark and thankfully was in the middle. What more can you ask for?
There is some room for sophistication adjustments here and there, and you know Nike will find a way to make a slightly better club. In the meantime, this club is genuinely sound and is a complete unit that has an uncommon reliability demonstrated by the landing pattern of its drives. It is a club you can get to know and trust, and once in the bag, it will be hard to find something more consistent.
